Belgian Cups: second-leg semifinals
It’s time for second-leg matches. The competition’s top 4 teams are coming back to battle for their spot in the finals. Who will be the lucky ones to fight for the Holy Gail in King Baudouin Stadium?
Have finals come early?
We’re starting off strong with a duel that will purely and solely put head to head the two best teams of the season. KRC Genk will welcome Club Brugge, only three points behind them in the Pro League.
In the first-leg match, Racing missed their chance. Although they were first to open the score with their star striker Tolu Arokodare, they then crumbled under Jan Breydel’s stress and the scores were overtaken 2 to 1 by Ordoñez and Tzolis.
However, the statistics’ sheet clearly shows that the Limburgish didn’t deserve to lose. In the Cegeka Arena, the tables will turn as Genk’s fans will blow their stadium’s roof off and lead their team to victory. They’re showing a record of 10 victories and one draw for no defeat in their fortress during championships, a clear and burr-free home advantage.
Even if Brugge have the score advantage, it could quickly get destroyed by the kingdom’s best team.
The Mauves in finals?
To know which version of Anderlecht will go to Antwerp, you’ll have to wake up early. The Mauves’ fans are used to two completely different faces. It’s hard to know if Anderlecht will conquer or if they’ll show their thoughtless face.
In the first-leg match, it was clearly the Mauves’ beautiful face that welcomed Antwerp in the Lotto Park. A performance that earned them a 1-0 victory. But in the second-leg match, beware of Bosuil’s fiery atmosphere, capable of turning any match over in favor of the number 1.
This season, Anderlecht’s welcome ended in a 1-2 defeat. The Mauves are thus favorites, but beware of the (all too) common day off.
