European Cups: our Pro League teams

It’s time for the penultimate matchday of the European cup league phase. Our Belgian teams playing in the last two ongoing competitions only have one objective in mind: qualification. While Cercle have already qualified for the round of 16 and Conference League and Gent should go through to the round of 16, three teams still have two matches where everything is still to play for.

Club Brugge vs Juventus

A gala match awaits Brugge with the reception of an Italian heavyweight. However, only one point separates the two teams. Juventus is having a complicated season where the standard of play isn't always what the fans are expecting. In Bruges, confidence is strong in the race for the Pro League title. If they win at home, the Blauw en Zwart would be sure to take part in the round of 16.

Plzen vs Anderlecht

Everything is going smoothly for the Mauves in the Europa League who are in 3rd place with two matchdays left. They could seal the deal on their impressive journey this Thursday with a virtually certain qualification for the round of 16 if they win. To do that, they will have to win in the Czech Republic against Plzen who have a weak 4/12 at home in the competition.

Union SG vs Braga

The Unionists will also be treated to a great match as they welcome a Braga who are failing to get any closer to the top 3 in La Liga Portugal. The Portuguese are also in the elimination zone in the Europa League, although they are only a little behind the team from Brussels. This match will therefore be crucial for Union if they want to avoid elimination.

What to expect

Club Brugge at home should be solid. While victory may be difficult, it is more than possible that a draw will be the final result. Qualification wouldn’t be secured yet, but it’s well underway.

In the Europa League, the two teams from Brussels will have different challenges. While in Anderlecht, the probability of celebrating a direct qualification at the end of the match is high, Union will have a lot to do and may have to wait until the last matchday to save themselves.
