It’s time for a new Super Sunday!

The football planet is getting ready for another Sunday of pure enjoyment. Three great fixtures will brighten this matchday up while the stakes of the different championships are getting clearer and clearer.

Union Saint-Gilloise – Standard Liège

After getting defeated again at the Clásico, Standard are backed into a corner. If they wish to place for the Champions Playoffs, they’ll have to count on a double failure from KAA Gent and manage to get a 6/6 during their next two matches. Their special mission will be starting this Sunday when they’ll go to this season best Brussels’ team: Union.

On the other side, everything is going well for Union. After a beautiful victory during the Brussels derby, Pocognoli’s men have kept their winning streak going by eating Dender for breakfast last weekend. Their goal is obvious: secure their spot in the top 3 and wait for a faux pas from Club Brugge to get ahead of them!

When playing away, Standard Liège are used to giving close matches and struggling to score. We can then expect to see Leko’s men let the locals take the advantage, only to counter-attack and catch them off guard. We’ll also keep an eye out for Ayensa and Lazare who will face the club they still are a part of, and who will want to prove what they’re made of.

Royal Antwerp – KAA Gent

Time for the other clash of this Pro League matchday. Gent are now 4 points ahead of Standard and winning would secure their spot in the Champions Playoffs. A not-so convincing Antwerp are standing in their way, only 3 points ahead of them in the leaderboard.

Both teams have endured two consecutive ties and could surely use this match to get back on track. This is especially the case for Antwerp, who recently parted ways with their coach Jonas De Roeck after these last weeks’ disappointing results. This match is the perfect occasion for the Great Old to make a fresh start before the Playoffs begin.

Manchester United – Arsenal

Premier League in sight with this third clash. It’s simple, while Ruben Amorim’s arrival should have given a new impetus to Manchester, the plan is not working and some even claim that the club is doing worse than it was under Erik Ten Hag. Manchester have recently been eliminated by Fulham in the 5th round of the FA Cup and are now 14th in the general leaderboard. A hell of a season for the Red Devils.

On Arsenal’s side, although the club’s results are pretty uneven, they’re still doing alright overall. The Gunners are still competing in the Champions League where they’ll be facing the PSV and are currently ranked second in the Premier League, right behind the unbeatable Reds of Liverpool.

It’s easy to think that Arsenal will make short work of a mid-crisis United, but we always say that a wounded beast is twice as dangerous. Beware not to play too confident!
