Champions League: Matchday 3
A new Champions League matchday is here and our Belgian clubs are going to have to deal with big teams. On top of that, a remake of the 2017 Champions League final will ensure a show.
Union SG – Inter
After their difficult defeat in Newcastle, Union won’t have it any easier this Tuesday evening as the Belgian champions receive the European vice-champions: Inter.
Without Pocognoli, a new beginning awaits Hubert’s men. Taking points would send out a strong message and do a lot of good for the team as well as their fans. Against them, Inter are one of the Series A teams who are performing well and have 6 points out of 6 in the Champions League with easy wins over Ajax and Slavia Prague. Inter are ultra-favorites so, will you dare to bet on Union?
Bayern Munich – Club Brugge
The same goes for Brugge, after a defeat against Atalanta, an even more complicated trip awaits the Blauw en Zwart. They’re going to play against one of the most destructive teams right now: Bayern Munich.
Will Brugge be able to conquer the Allianz Arena? Nothing could be less certain. Bayern have won 100% of their matches so far this season with 25 goals scored and 3 conceded in the Bundesliga. And that’s thanks to Harry Kane, a player of Ballon d'Or caliber who makes scoring look like a walk in the park.
Let's not forget that Vincent Kompany is on the bench and as a former Mauve member, we can be sure he’ll be happy to trample all over Brugge. However, Brugge have the gift of performing when you least expect it. What springs to mind is a draw at the Santiago Bernabéu in 2019 against Zidane's men, future defending champions for the third time in a row.
Real Madrid – Juventus
Speaking of the Merengues, their first big test of this 2025-2026 campaign has arrived. Juventus will travel to the Bernabéu for a match that’s always special between these two teams. A few days before the Clásico, Xabi Alonso will have to deal with the injuries of two of his starters, Mbappé and Mastantuono, who returned early from the last national game. Both players should be able to play; a relapse just before one of the biggest games of their season would be unwelcome.
Will Juve's defense be able to resist Mbappé? The Frenchman is a real goal machine. La Liga Pichichi winner and Champions League top scorer with 5 goals in two games, the Bondy native is the supreme weapon of the White House armada. Another goal this Wednesday? We’re counting on it for a bet!
