Crazy Sunday in the JPL

This weekend, get ready for a spectacular football Sunday in the Pro League. Three clashes will stir up passions all day long, just a few matchdays away from the end of the championship.

Club Brugge vs Standard Liège

We’re starting off strong at 13:30 with a clash that promises to put on a show each season. Standard are going to Jan Breydel where they haven’t won a championship since 1 April 2013.

This face-off usually gives rise to clashes full of goals. We can’t forget the 4-4 tie or a pure humiliation resulting in 7 goals to 1.

This season, Standard is not letting many goals in, but when they do, the goals usually come one after another. We could therefore either expect a tight match or a festival of goals from Club Brugge.

KRC Genk vs. KAA Gent

Though only one letter stands between both teams on the map, there are 20 points between them on the leaderboard. KRC Genk, who won in Sclessin last week, are welcoming KAA Gent right after the team’s difficult and controversial win against Beerschot.

Genk are trying to score as many points as possible for the Playoffs, threatened by Brugge who are only 8 points behind. On their side, Gent want to secure their spot in the top 6 after they lost it to Standard, who are struggling to stay in as good a shape as they were at the beginning of the year.

The result of the Club-Standard clash will directly impact the pressure on Gent and Genk’s shoulders since one of these teams could see an opponent get dangerously closer.

Anderlecht vs. Union SG

It’s time for the Brussels derby between the country’s two most successful teams. After a streak of 10 consecutive wins for Union since their comeback in Pro League, the Mauves eventually managed to keep pace with their rival and haven’t lost any of their last four matches, even winning one of them.

This season, both teams have played pretty unevenly which has led to them being on a level playing field on the leaderboard since Union, third, only has one more point than Anderlecht, fourth.

This clash will then give the winner a double psychological upper hand which, in addition to the fact that a victory's always more significant in a derby, will directly impact the leaderboard. Watch out, there will be trouble!
