Club World Cup: the USA is ready for fiery matches

New format

The Club World Cup is reinventing itself. Instead of a mini tournament every season, it’s being replaced with a big competition that, like for the selections, will crown a world champion every 4 years. For this edition, the tournament will take place in the USA.

The format? Like a classic tournament: groups of four, two qualifiers then a knockout stage until the final.

The participants? The best teams from all over the world, taking into account the latest international trophies won and the leaderboards of federations from each continent (CONMEBOL, UEFA, etc.).

The stakes

First of all, prestige. With this new format, FIFA is wanting to make the winner the best team in the world. The team that wins the competition will wear a world champion badge on their shirt for the next four years until the next Club World Cup.

In addition, FIFA has allowed the clubs involved to sign a contract for the duration of the competition to any player who isn't taking part, whether they are free or play for a non-participating team.

The financial aspect should also be taken into account as the winning team will win a total of more than 150 million euros.

The favorites

We know that European club football dominates the debate. This is why the European teams taking part are logically the favorites. PSG, Bayern, Man. City and Real Madrid are hoping to make history.
