The top European teams shine on the world stage!
It's been a few days since the Club World Cup started and the first trends are already becoming clear. Not surprisingly, the competition is currently being dominated by the big European clubs who have almost all made a big impression.
Europe is serious
It's not by chance that every player’s dream is to play for a European top 5 club. After less than a week of competition, this reason was made clear for everyone to see, even the skeptics. Most of the top European clubs were pretty much unbeatable when playing against teams from the rest of the world.
Many wondered if this competition would be taken seriously by the best clubs in the world, and it didn’t take long for them to get their answer. Almost all of them won their opening match against a club from another continent. It seems that the prospect of being the first winner in the history of this competition motivates the big teams.
The tops
While some clubs like Porto and Benfica have been hung out to dry, others have already made a big impression. We're thinking, for example, of PSG, the reigning European champion, who trampled Atlético 4-0, or Bayern’s big victory against Auckland City with a score of... 10-0! Clearly, they didn't come to the United States for a vacation.
The same goes for Manchester City, Salzburg and Juventus who also prevailed against unfamiliar opponents.
Everything is also going swimmingly for Brazil. After Botafogo’s victory over Seattle and PSG, Palmeiras’ draw against Porto and Fluminense’s draw against Dortmund, Flamengo easily got the better of Esperance Tunis.
The flops
Chelsea’s first match against LA FC confirmed that the MLS teams are struggling. As well as Seattle losing against Botafogo and Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami drawing 0-0 in the opening match against Al Ahly, Chelsea easily beat the Californians with a score of 2-0.
Atlético de Madrid disappointed their fans by losing against another European heavyweight and Inter also got off to a bad start by drawing against Monterrey.
Xabi Alonso’s Real Madrid didn’t manage to get victory in their coach’s first match against Al Hilal. Madrid quickly fell into their trap and the ghost of Carlo Ancelotti is still hovering above the team.
In Argentina, Boca led 2-0 before Benfica equalized at the end of the match, a frustrating finish, but a more than encouraging match despite two red cards. As for River, they got a victory against Urawa Reds without much difficulty.
The competition is also continuing at Circus Sport with our tournament. You have a few days left to try and win the prize pool, but don’t worry, our tournament is back the following week. Will you do better than the prize pool of €9,000+ in the first week?
