A crazy Pro League weekend!

Get ready for one of the biggest weekends of the Pro League regular season. Two matches are set to get passionate and definitely ones not to miss.

Anderlecht – Standard

It’s finally time for the first Belgian Clasico of the season. Basnik Hasi’s Sporting Anderlecht will receive Vincent Euvrard’s Standard. A battle of not only style, but also somewhat strange dynamics.

First of all, Sporting Anderlecht are getting off to a more than complicated start. After being knocked out in the Europa League qualifications, the Mauves also got out of the Conference League playoffs. No Europe for Anderlecht... a difficult pill to swallow for the fans.

In the championship, everything is going well in the numbers. 4th in the leaderboard with only 2 points behind the runners-up, Sporting haven’t let go. However, the Mauve supporters have shown their anger more than once. Their target: the coach! Hasi is far from unanimous and his choices are constantly criticized. Their standard of play is insufficient and shows no improvement; Anderlecht might end up serving as a doormat for the big teams once again during the Champions Playoffs.

On the other hand, Standard started their season well before collapsing and sacking Mircea Rednic after just 5 matches. Since Vincent Euvrard arrived, we can tell the players are more committed, but this improvement isn’t reflected in the figures. The proof was again in the pudding last weekend as after delivering their best match of the season against Brugge, the team from Liège lost 2-1.

So we have a team that is doing well on the surface, but with an underlying rising tension, and another that just can’t seem to get into a good rhythm despite everything seeming to be on track. One thing’s for sure, this Clasico could mark a turning point in both rivals’ seasons. Feeling tempted by a little bet?

Club Brugge – Union SG

Both are competing the Champions League and these two clubs have now been the best in the country for several years. While Brugge still managed to finish ahead, Union was finally crowned last season. This year, they’re sticking with what worked and starting again!

Union is first with 23 points out of 29 and is the big favorite for the final victory. Just behind, Club Brugge, second with 17 points, are again ready to ambush. This match will be an opportunity to gauge the two teams head to head for the first time this season. Do you have a favorite?
