Pro League: weekend derby

For the 16th matchday, Standard will try to get back in the win column, Antwerp are heading to Bruges for their first match since their coach was fired, and the battle for Brussels will be underway between Union and Anderlecht.

KV Mechelen – Standard

Standard will kick off this matchday’s hostilities from Friday for a change, and with one clear goal in mind: to start winning again.

Against Zulte Waregem, Standard spent more than an hour on the numerical advantage without ever managing to open the scoring. Even worse, if not for a necessary foul by Marco Ilaimaharitra that earned him a red card just a few minutes after entering the game, Zulte Waregem would likely have scored a chaotic game-winning goal at Sclessin.

Vincent Euvrard spoke at a press conference after his team faced whistles from the home crowd at the end of the match. The coach acknowledged that the result wasn’t good enough and is already focused on picking up a win at Mechelen. Can the Rouches pull it off? It’s up to you to place a bet!

Club Brugge – Antwerp

Times are tough for Antwerp… Sitting all the way down in 14th place with just 14 points, the Great Old suffered their 7th loss of the season last weekend against… Dender, the worst team in the Pro League, who hadn’t won a single match until then.

For Antwerp’s managers, this humiliating defeat was the last straw and led to the dismissal of coach Stef Wils. Will Antwerp get off on the right foot? They’ll face a challenging mission in Bruges.

Club Brugge have just beaten Charleroi to get back on track and restore some much-needed confidence. Still, they’ll have to hope that they didn’t use up too much energy in their Champions League game in Lisbon.

Anderlecht – Union Saint-Gilloise

Union Saint-Gilloise have now bested Anderlecht in each of their last four meetings. Will Brussels stay blue and yellow for the 5th consecutive match? Recall that since Union’s return in 2022, the Mauves have only beaten them once, in 2024.

Anderlecht is on a three-game winning streak, while Union have scored four wins and a draw in their last five Pro League matches – so we’ll be witnessing two teams in top form facing off for domination of the Belgian capital. Which side will see the Manneken Pis dressed up in their colors?
