Pro League: has the wake-up call come?

This weekend, several teams will attempt to consolidate their return to form. Others, however, need to get back onto a positive track at all costs.

Cercle Brugge vs. Standard de Liège

Standard continue this week with a second consecutive away match. Few had tipped them to win last Friday against Mechelen, a top 6 team, especially with Said and Abid missing, but the Rouches managed to pull off a surprise on away soil.

But the question has remained the same for months, if not years: Can Standard manage to build momentum and win several consecutive matches? The answer will be revealed this Saturday at 16:00 against the least in-form team in the league. Would you bet against the Rouches?

Union SG vs. KAA Gent

It was a tough blow for Union. Last week, Union lost for the second time since the Pro League returned against RSC Anderlecht. It was a derby defeat that hurt both the spirit and their standing, since the Mauves are now only 5 points behind.

This weekend, KAA Gent should be an easy game on paper. They’ve struggled to find their way since the start of the season and have only managed to take 2 points from the last 4 games. But will the Buffalos let themselves be beaten? Definitely not! Expect a real war on the pitch between two teams who will want to avoid defeat at all costs.

Antwerp vs. Genk

If we’re talking about surprises, then last weekend’s was undoubtedly Antwerp’s 0-1 victory at the Jan Breydel stadium. On the back of a humiliating defeat against Dender and the loss of their coach, the Antwerp side won their biggest victory of the season. Has the arrival of Joseph Oosting at the helm changed everything? We’ll find out this weekend against Genk.
