Pro League: The battle of the top 6

Places in the Playoffs are precious. Five teams are battling it out to get 5th and 6th place, which will grant them a ticket for the Champions Playoffs. While Mechelen won’t play a direct competitor this weekend, the 4 other teams will put on a great show!

Standard – KAA Gent

We’re diving straight in with a duel between the teams in 6th and 7th place. Thanks to their victory against Anderlecht and Standard’s defeat, the Buffalos have managed to find their way back in the top 6. But watch out, Standard are poised for attack and Sclessin will do its all to push the team to victory, which would put the Rouches ahead of Gent.

While Gent were struggling under Leko, Rik de Mil followed up with a second consecutive victory this weekend. Beaten 1-2 at halftime, KAA Gent managed to turn it around and score 3 goals in the second half to take the score to 4-2. They’re getting into the swing of things, but it might get too hot to handle in Sclessin.

At Standard, the inconsistencies continue. One day they win, the next day they lose. But last weekend, the defeat stung more than normal. Not only did the Rouches lose their place in the top 6, but above all they lost one of the most important matches of their season: the Wallonia derby.

Trailing 2-0 after half an hour of play, the Rouches wasted several occasions to get back on track. Mortensen and Teuma's runs in the second half added a lot of technical quality but they were unable to help the Rouches score. Result: defeated and out of the top 6.

The good news is that if they win on Friday, Euvrard’s men will return to the 6th spot on the podium. But are they up to it? The Buffalos really are their bête noire…

Antwerp – Charleroi

A duel between two teams tied on points with Standard. Antwerp and Charleroi are only two points behind Gent and a victory would get them much closer to the top 6.

Floating on a cloud since the arrival of their new coach, last weekend the Antwerp team suffered their first defeat of the championship since Joseph Oosting’s arrival. After defeating the cream of the crop in the country, it was against... Dender, last place in the JPL, that the Great Old collapsed.

In Charleroi, defeat is no longer a word they know. Their derby victory marked the 4th consecutive undefeated match for the Carolos. Their win against Standard has also boosted everyone ahead of the crucial match in Antwerp. Will they keep up their streak?
