Pro League: a totally crazy Sunday

This new Pro League matchday will be marked by two of the most highly anticipated matches of the season. They will take place on Sunday in a matchday that’s set to be exceptional.

Standard vs Anderlecht

It will start at 13:30 with the second Classico of the season. Remember, during the first one, Anderlecht dominated at home in a match that wasn’t up to much in terms of football skill. And even if we love talking about football, it seems that the attention will be on the stands again.

The two clubs have found themselves in a crisis. Even if their position in the standings isn’t catastrophic, there are problems on the pitch. Standard are now at three defeats in a row, including one against Charleroi and most recently a punishing 0-4 at home against Gent. For Anderlecht, the level of play is still lacking and is stopping them from securing victories that should be easier, like last weekend against Dender.

The problem is that in two such passionate clubs, the fans have had enough. While we saw the Mauves settle scores with their players on the pitch during the lap of honor, things got much more heated at Sclessin. After the match, ultras forced their way backstage to the Rouches' locker room to try to wake up the players, who they felt weren't playing with enough passion. One thing’s for sure, for the losing team, the situation in the stands is likely to worsen.

Union SG vs Club Brugge

After discussing the tension in the stands, we’re now going to look at something that’s more enjoyable on the pitch. The two best teams in the championship will battle it out again. At stake: first place in the championship. With only two points between them, these two teams, along with Sint-Truiden, are the top teams of the season.

In the first leg match, Brugge were the ones to get ahead with a 1-0 victory. Will Union get revenge? We’ll find out on Sunday!
