Pro League: Anderlecht and Standard are the talk of the league
After last weekend’s fiery Classico, Standard were back on their feet while Anderlecht’s own captain declared that the team was “in crisis”. What shape will these two sides be in after what’s shaping up to be a huge 24th matchday for the Pro League?
Genk – Anderlecht
After their 0-2 loss at Sclessin, things spiraled quickly for Anderlecht. First, Coosemans gave a startling interview saying that he didn’t understand what had happened and that his club was in crisis. And it’s true that one team on the field had a lot more intensity and drive… and it wasn’t Anderlecht!
Then, just a few hours after the match, we learned that Besnik Hasi had been relieved of his duties as head coach of the Mauves. Who will succeed him? The Brusselers head to Genk under a cloud of uncertainty. For the Limburg side, the goal is simple: make their way back up in the standings and grab a spot in the top 6. Can Racing take advantage of Anderlecht’s woes?
Club Brugge – Standard Liège
Standard’s win in the Classico has clearly given them a boost. The mentality on which the Rouches have built their reputation was on full display, and it paid off! With help from Teddy Teuma and his boundless creativity, Standard played their finest home game of the season. But this weekend, they’re off to the Venice of the North.
Club Brugge is ready to give Standard the welcome they deserve. After their loss to Union, the Club will be eager to get things back on track in front of their fans. And based on these two teams’ history on Brugge’s territory, the odds may be on the home team’s side. Will Standard pull off a surprise, or will they falter yet again at Jan Breydel?
