The Olympic Games offer a multitude of betting opportunities and disciplines. On our Circus website, as well as on our application downloadable for free from Google Play and the App Store, you can find out the odds, make your predictions and place your bets in a secure way.

Thanks to the calendar at the bottom of this article, you can follow all the finals and bet on the disciplines of your choice and on the most famous athletes. But you can also bet before the finals!

When should you bet on athletics events?

Bets can start well before the finals! It's possible to make predictions well ahead of time, and to follow predictors/bookmakers specialized in the various disciplines of athletics.

It should be noted that athletics is one of the most eagerly awaited disciplines, and some races have lots of sports betting options. Some countries overlook the competition, such as the USA and Jamaica, while the best long-distance runners come from Kenya and Ethiopia. Hold your breath for the final sprint!

Some tips to place your bets

  • Take into account the athletes' physical condition. If an athlete is back after an injury or a period of illness, this can influence their results. Mental state is also important, as an athlete's motivation can have a negative influence if they aren’t motivated or focused. The same goes for team sports. A leader may then lose their prestigious position in aid of another athlete, or even an outsider. Both body and mind need to be at the top of their game, in order to be able to give the best.
  • The weather can affect the competition and some athletes can be unsettled.
  • Take a look at the results of the various athletes in the running. This can constitute an important source for placing of your bets.
  • Don't place your bets randomly and without having analyzed the situation (see previous points). Take the time to target each athlete in each athletics event you want to follow. Random bets are not necessarily the most fruitful, and there can be many losses.
  • If you have lost a bet, don’t try to bet again to make good your losses. You might bet at a loss!
  • Don’t always bet on your favorite athlete.
  • Set yourself limits. The Olympic Games includes many disciplines and there can be many bets.
  • If a “professional” promises you that their predictions are 100% certain, run away! Predictions are not an exact science.
  • Check the various odds. This can be an indication of the winning probability. Low odds give you a better chance of success, but if you bet a small amount, you won't win much. On the contrary, if you bet a big amount of money and win, then it will be profitable. Otherwise, you'll lose your stake. You can also bet on very high odds, but the winning probability is minimal. In this case, you can bet a very small amount and, if your bet is a winner, you'll be able to take advantage of a sum that may not be insignificant.

When will the 2024 Olympic Games take place?

From 26 July to 11 August 2024, experience the new edition of the Olympic Games in Paris, the City of Light. This international competition is eagerly awaited not only by the public, but also by many athletes hoping to win a medal.

The last edition of the Tokyo Olympics was held in 2021, rather than 2020, because of the Coronavirus pandemic. Paris was unanimously elected in 2015 to host this prestigious competition in 2024.

The Olympic Games originally date back to the VIII century BC and were modernized in 1894 by Pierre de Coubertin, a French baron who also created the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The first Olympics of the modern era took place in Athens in 1896.

There are also other competitions linked to the Olympic Games: the Winter Olympics, the Paralympics and the Youth Olympic Games.

Many athletes make a name for themselves through their participation in the Olympic Games. Until today, the most decorated athlete is the American swimmer Michael Phelps, with 28 medals. On the women's side, the most decorated athlete is Marit Bjørgen, the Norwegian cross-country skier with 15 medals.

This year, all eyes are on the French athletes. Are they going to make France proud?

What are the different athletics events?

While new disciplines are appearing all the time, today, we're going to broach the subject of athletics.

Athletics has been an official Olympic discipline since the first edition in 1896. At that time, only men could take part; it was only in 1928 that women were able to join their male colleagues. Athletics consists of 48 events (23 for men, 23 for women and 2 mixed). Until today, it remains the discipline with the most events. In 2024, the athletics track will change color and turn purple! The stadium is being modernized and brought up to standard, in order to host the 2024 Olympic Games.

The number of athletes is 1,810, with an equal number of men and women (905 athletes in both camps). The same applies to the number of events: 23 for men and 23 for women, including a 42.195 km mixed walking event that replaced the 50 km race walk.

What about Belgium at the Olympic Games?

Since the first Olympics of the modern era, Belgian athletes have won a total of 163 medals (45 gold, 56 silver and 62 bronze medals), putting our nation on the 29th step of the podium in the ranking of Olympic medals per nation.

Our podiums and titles Olympic record dates back to 1920, with 36 medals and 14 titles won at the Antwerp Olympic Games. Our country's first Olympic champion was Justine Henin, who won her gold medal at the Athens Olympics in 2004.

Another more recent champion is Nafissatou Thiam, with 2 gold medals won in the heptathlon, at Rio in 2016 and Tokyo in 2020 (Olympics postponed to 2021, due to the Covid-19 pandemic). Nafissatou takes part in many championships and is one of Belgium's best athletes. When taking part in the World Championships in London, she won Belgium's first title in this prestigious competition. Her exploits don't stop there, and her track record remains impressive.

The record number of Olympic titles goes to Hubert Van Innis, a Belgian archer from Flemish Brabant, with 6 gold and 3 silver medals.
