What about our advice to bet on judo?

Judo isn't as popular as football around here, but it has found its audience over the years. Judo is extremely popular in Asia, and also much appreciated by the French public and has gained in popularity thanks to its judoka David Douillet.

As in all sports, it's important to analyze the condition of judokas. Their physical condition and their mental strength should both be good. Judo is a sport combining fighting strength and mind control.

Here are a few tips for your future betting:

●     Find out about the physical state of the judokas: if you can, find out about the training done during the Olympics, to see if the judokas are at their best physically. A judoka weakened by a recent illness may not be at their best. Recovering from a recent injury, or if an old injury reappears, this can become a disadvantage that could harm the athlete’s competition;

●     Find out about the psychological state of judokas: mental state is extremely important in competitions, and the Olympics can put extra pressure on athletes. An athlete in poor mental shape may find themselves dominated by a weaker opponent and miss their chance of victory;

●     Keep yourself informed of the judoka's career: over time, an athlete's performance may decline, and their career may end at a big competition. So, you need to analyze the skills of all each athletes, whether they are newcomers or have been on the mat for many years;

●     Consider the results of the last few months: don't just take into account the training results during the Olympics, but find out about the results over the last few months of the year! Other competitions may have taken place, whether they are important or not;

●     Learn the judokas’ qualities and faults: each judoka has qualities that can serve them and faults that can harm them and this can influence the course of the match;

●     Draw up a table with all the information on the judokas: according to the points mentioned above, you'll be able to draw up a table of notes about the various statistics of each judoka.

●     Don’t hesitate to draw up another table: a table with your winning and losing predictions. This will allow you to understand what works and what doesn’t in your bets;

●     Avoid betting on your favorite athlete: you have a favorite athlete and you only want to bet on this athlete? Huge mistake! Betting on a favorite can be ineffective and make you lose a big amount of money.

What is judo?

Judo is a traditional wrestling sport created in Japan. Judo is a martial art derived from jujitsu, it's a very physical sport, but with a very rigorous philosophy

All dangerous methods have been removed, it's important to maintain self-control while developing your personality, without any violence. The objective of this martial art is to master one's opponent in various ways:

●     Throw them onto their back

●     Immobilize them on the ground for 20 seconds

●     Make them give up by giving them joint locks or choke holds

Judokas practice judo in a dojo and wear the compulsory uniform, the judogi. Unlike what many people believe, there is no kimono in judo.

Judo is practiced barefoot and shirtless, but women can wear a white T-shirt under their uniform. Matches takes place on a tatami, which is a set of foam mats designed to cushion the impact of falls.

“Judo” means “way of suppleness”, but can also mean “spirit of adaptation” or “principle of adaptation”.

The first national and international judo competitions were held in the early 50s, and judo entered the Olympic Games competition at the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. Judo was admitted on a permanent basis at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games.

The first European women's championships appeared in 1976, but the ladies were only able to take part in this major global competition at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.

Judo is very popular in Japan, and is one of the most widely practiced martial arts in the world, and is very popular with the French.

There's a moral code associated with judo. The respect of the opponent is required, and every hold must be controlled to avoid injuring the other judoka. The code comprises 8 essential points:

●     Courtesy,

●     Courage,

●     Honesty,

●     Honor,

●     Modesty,

●     Respect,

●     Self control,

●     Friendship.

When did judo first appear at the Olympic Games?

On the men side, judo was admitted definitively in 1972, at the Munich Olympic Games, but entered the Olympic competition in 1964, at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Women entered the competition in 1992, and the mixed team event was introduced in 2020.

What about the qualifiers for judo at the Olympic Games?

Each National Olympic Committee can’t have more than 14 judokas. One athlete per weight category (7 men and 7 women).

France already has its 14 athletes to represent their country. 358 places remain to be filled, for a total of 372 judokas taking part in the competition.

A World Tour of events has been organized since 24/06/2022 and is due to finish on 23/06/2024 to obtain a quota with the first 17 countries in each category.

Later, a quota system will be attributed to “continental representation” (100 seats), and each continent is invited to allocate a judoka to another country if it doesn’t have enough representatives for the mixed team judo event.

Finally, a tripartite commission attributes the last 15 seats according to the “principle of universality”.

How are the judo events at the Olympics organized?

There are 3 categories: men, women and mixed. For each category, the competition takes place over a single day and in two stages:

●     Qualifiers and quarterfinals in the morning (Q)

●     Repechage, semifinals and final matches in the afternoon (F)

Matches last only 4 minutes. That's why it's possible to do everything in a single day, by weight category.

In total, there will be 15 titles up for grabs for the judo events at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
