The first insights from the Playoffs
After a spectacular first matchday with 22 goals scored in the 8 matches played, we have already a bit of insight about what awaits us during the next 9 days.
A Champions Playoffs of two halves
On the first matchday, 3 teams showed their dominance by crushing their opponent. While Union were thrashing Antwerp, Genk were humiliating KAA Gent with 4-0. In the topper, Club Brugge dominated from A to Z a Sporting d'Anderlecht who finished the match without having taken a single shot on target.
In the standings, this translates into a 14-point difference between the leader and Ghent and Antwerp, and an 11-point difference with Anderlecht. Only Bruges (4 points) and Union (6 points) are managing to hold on.
This weekend, the top 3 teams face the bottom 3 teams again. Union will travel to Ghent while Club will take a tour of the Great Old. Although the gap between these teams is already too big, the Mauves still have a bit of hope, but to hang on, they will have to overcome Genk who are heading straight for another title. If they are defeated, the suspense will already be over for 3 of the 6 teams present in the Champions Playoffs.
Anything can happen
In the European Playoffs, two draws and a victory for Dender against Westerlo show us one thing: with only two points between the six teams, it is impossible to know who the big favorite is. Do you want suspense and surprises? Check out the Playoffs 2 side of things!
This weekend, all eyes will be on the Walloon derby between Charleroi and Standard. A real 6-point match between the two rivals.
Beerschot already relegated
It didn't take long. While we were announcing a near-impossible rescue mission for Beerschot. A 0-1 defeat against Sint-Truiden has already sealed the fate of the Antwerp team. Their future will be written in the Challenger Pro League next season!
So there are only 3 teams left in the race for survival. At the end of the first matchday, STVV are in the lead with Cercle Brugge hot on their heels at just 1 point behind. This weekend, Bruges will host Beerschot, who have nothing left to play for, and all the pressure will be on Sint-Truiden, who will host Kortrijk.
