UEFA Super Cup: Will PSG be the favorites against Tottenham?
It's time to kick off the European season with the UEFA Super Cup! PSG take on Tottenham and are considered ultra-favorites. But is this really the case?
Paris relentless?
Although Chelsea are world champions, no one will deny that PSG are currently the best team in the world. The Parisians may have lost 3-0 in the Club World Cup final, but that defeat cannot erase their stratospheric performance last season.
Led by an attacking trio of Kvaratskhelia, Doué and Dembélé, and supported by Joao Neves and Vitinha in midfield, the Parisian steamroller is back. If PSG play at their true level, Tottenham have very little chance of winning. If you want to bet on this match, this is probably the way to go!
A Tottenham revival?
Last season, Tottenham alternated between extreme highs and lows. Winners of the Europa League, the Londoners have been catastrophic and close to the relegation zone in the Premier League. If this is the same Tottenham as last season, the Spurs don't stand a chance.
However, a revolution is underway in North London. After 7 years in Brentford, Thomas Frank has become the Spurs' new coach to launch a new dynamic. On the transfer front, Heung-min Son's departure, though extremely painful for fans, marks the end of an era at Tottenham. In addition, a number of new arrivals have strengthened the current core team.
Headliners:
· Mohammed Kudus
· Mathys Tel
· Kevin Danso
These three recruits, along with others, have brought a wealth of talent to the team, both offensively and defensively.
An unsettling mercato?
In Paris, the mercato could well accelerate. First problem: the Donnarumma case. After several seasons in which the Italian keeper had to deal with a lot of criticism, this season he had finally revealed himself as one of the best in the world. But at just 26 years of age, as he approaches his prime, negotiations for a contract extension all fell through. PSG have reportedly decided to put him up for sale and recruit Lucas Chevalier as their new regular.
What's more, a team like Paris is bound to attract a lot of attention, and this is particularly true of Bradley Barcola. Should the Isak deal fall through, Liverpool could turn their attention to the Frenchman. In this case, Paris could set its sights on Rodrygo, whose situation at Real Madrid is rather unclear.
Could all this upheaval weaken the team?
