Champions League: an explosive second-to-last matchday

The Champions League is entering the second-to-last matchday of the league phase. Coaches under pressure, top-level clashes and a hefty challenge for Union, this 7th matchday has lots of surprises in store for us.

Real Madrid – Monaco

We’re starting on Tuesday with a high-tension battle. Two coaches who are in very different situations but who don’t have a choice, they need results.

We’ll start with the visiting team, AS Monaco. Sébastien Pocognoli hasn’t had a smooth start in the principality. The fans already weren’t unanimous about his arrival, and now he hasn’t been able to get good results and is behind in the championship. A victory in Bernabéu would be a great way to gain back trust, but it’s no mean feat.

As for the Merengues, nothing is going their way. Their defeat in the final of the Spanish Super Cup against Barça marked the end of the Xabi Alonso era. Despite getting second place in the championship and their position in the top 8 of the Champions League, the Spaniard lost the backing from certain players. The team's poor performance on the pitch and disagreements with management led them to part ways with the former Leverkusen coach.

His replacement: Álvaro Arbeloa. Just like Zinédine Zidane a few years ago, the former club legend was promoted from his role as coach of Castilla to coach of the first team during the season. Considered closer to Ancelotti in his management of the squad, Arbeloa is the right man for the job according to Florentino Perez. The former defender has everything to prove and might just surprise us like Zidane did. Or maybe, the locker room is simply unmanageable. The answer will come on Tuesday... by betting on Circus Sport?

Several clashes

This 7th matchday has some great matches in store, perfect for combination bets:

-           Kairat vs Club Brugge (20/01 at 16:30)

-           Tottenham vs Dortmund (20/01 at 21:00)

-           Sporting vs PSG (20/01 at 21:00)

-           Inter vs Arsenal (20/01 at 21:00)

-           Marseille vs Liverpool (21/01 at 21:00)

-           Juventus vs Benfica (21/01 at 21:00)

Bayern Munich – Union SG

Another impossible mission for Union? David Hubert’s men are traveling to the Allianz Arena, home of Vincent Kompany’s uncompromising Bayern. Second in the standings of the league phase, the Bavarians were only defeated by Arsenal this season in all competitions. Getting a point would be nothing short of a miracle. Can Union do it?
